thanks for keeping it real 2015 & cheers to 2016 in the north island of new zealand

Last year was a bit crappy. This also seemed to be the general consensus of others around me. However, I live my life by appreciating that the universe gives us what we need when we need it. Should I irritate you by saying #grateful? At the same time, I was very happy to begin the new year drinking copious amounts of alcohol in New Zealand wineries. Took the edge off. Especially after Christmas entertaining cooking frenzies. I was also getting a bit fed up with the garden which is usually my happy place. As you know, I’m not exactly overjoyed about the weather this time of year. A few of my fancy plants got fried and died…another reminder of needing to shift negative attachments from 2015. Ahhh…the garden is a metaphor for life. Don’t worry, I’ll shut up now. The point of the thing is that energy has shifted and 2016 is going to be a fabulous positive year for all!

During our holiday break we did a road trip from Auckland to Wellington (staying at Taupo and Napier in between). A few years back, we did the south island and it was like driving around one massive postcard. I just love a road trip. Although it’s about relaxation, my fight/ flight response is always heightened in case I miss a roadside stall opportunity and boy, there are plenty. And that doesn’t always make for a smooth driving experience. For me, the highlight was Hawkes Bay food and wine region. Such a sense of discovery when being able to stop at farm gates, meet growers and buy produce direct from the farm. Food local to the region includes stone fruits, berries, honey, figs, olives, biodynamic cheese and coffee. I won’t tell you how many fresh fruit ice-creams I consumed. And of course we drank lots of wine (lovely pinot gris and albariňo). We usually do wine tours wherever we go. You see, I’m also on life time learning journey about drinking wine. The thing is I often don’t retain the knowledge but as the wine guide kindly reminded me, β€œalcohol and memory don’t go well together.” Why didn’t I remember that? Cheers to 2016! :: Jem x

Jem that is so interesting what you say about last year and this We had the same thing as did everyone we know – i.e. last year was a bit of a flop (so glad when it ended) and this year has started with a bang and everyone is looking forward to a fab year. it must be in the stars:) Love love NZ. and yes the south island is such a treat to drive around. perfect picture postcards at every turn I also had to stop at every food stall etc i saw. many delicious things were consumed including wonderful fruity ice creams from little vans and fresh seafood etc. Enjoy this fab year! x

I had a peculiar 2015. Got a good feeling about this year of the monkey. I only have my ginger pant left on my balcony garden. Impermanence, and plants know it and are very forgiving. Ciao! πŸ™‚

Absolutely agree Sam. It’s so easy for us Aussies to visit, we’re lucky to be neighbors.
